We live in a fast-paced, demanding world. So many things demand our attention, and they need to be done now. It is easy to let life turn into one big race. We are called to run a race, but a specific race, a God-given race. Losing our focus on that goal jeopardizes everything in our life.
Recently, I realized I had lost my focus on the finish line. Yes, me, a missionary. I had lost that focus on God first. In the busy-ness of ministry, I had allowed my priorities to become so out of line that my time alone with God, or my time in prayer with Him, was neglected so I could have more time for ministry. I thought I was getting a lot done, but I was really handicapping myself and limiting God’s opportunities to work.
Hebrews 12:1-2 says, “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
No matter what is demanding your time right now, take that time for God. If you don’t, you might end up running the wrong race. Prioritize your time with your goal.
